As of 2004 all New Jersey Locksmiths must be licensed under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. The rules, regulations and standards for a licensed Locksmith protect the public from unqualified contractors. A Licensed Locksmith has undergone a criminal background check and has been issued a photo ID card.
